UF Health Jacksonville
Functions as an ambassador of the organization by greeting and assisting patients, visitors, and staff in a friendly and courteous manner. The volunteer will escort customers or provide specific directions, information, and assistance to various locations on the Shands Jacksonville campus in a proactive and courteous manner. This volunteer position is designed to greatly enhance patient satisfaction and guest relations by presenting an image of the care and dedication of Shands Jacksonville to the public.
Gift Shop Snack Cart Volunteer
The Gift Shop Snack Cart Volunteer provides a valuable service to our staff, visitors and families of patients by being an extension of the gift shop. Snack cart volunteers should always be courteous and friendly to and enjoy interacting with people. The cart is lightweight and easy to manage.
General Office Volunteer
To provide support to the office staff of the department(s). This includes support to any staff of the specific department, unit program, and to any patients, families, residents, or visitors who may contact that department either in person or on the telephone. The tasks are typically general office, clerical, and receptionist duties.
Visitation Volunteer
Functions as an ambassador of goodwill visiting and interacting with patients, families, and staff. Lift the spirit and reduce the emotional suffering of those who are ill and alone.
Partners in Care Volunteer
Assist nursing staff by providing general support to patients and families. Perform various helpful tasks, promotion of self esteem and other comfort measures for patients. Does not provide direct clinical care.

UF Health Shands Hospital has four different volunteer programs, each with its own application process.
Degree seeking
For people 18+ years old who are or will be enrolled in college, technical school or a post-graduate program or who are taking a gap year
Auxiliary and Shriners
For people who are finished with their formal educationPet therapy
VolunTEEN
Applications and acceptance
- Volunteers are not accepted for court-ordered or community service hours.
- Volunteers must meet certain requirements.
Applications for the following are accepted year-round:
Commitment
- Degree-seeking volunteers are asked to commit to one full semester for a three-hour shift once a week.
- Auxiliary (non-degree seeking) volunteers are asked for a six-month commitment for a three-hour shift once a week.
