Thomas Jefferson University-Sidney Kimmel Medical College

This is a private institution that offers a few Medical Doctor (MD) programs. They also allow you the opportunity to get a joint MD in a number of fields, including a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Ph.D., and a Master of Public Health (MPH). This school also offers an accelerated bachelors/MD program and a pre-health program, for those with a bachelor’s degree who do not meet the requirements to apply for the MD program.

Drexel University

Drexel University is a private research institution that offers an MD program along with several dual degrees, including an MD/Ph.D., an MD/MPH, an MD/MBA, and an MD with a Masters of Science. Their MD program is divided into three parts, with the first 18 months being devoted to developing a foundation, the next twelve months devoted to clinical experience, and the final year spent on advancing clinical skills and preparing for residency.

University of Pennsylvania – Perelman School of Medicine

The University of Pennsylvania is an Ivy League research university that offers an MD program, as well as joint MD programs with PhD or master’s programs. Their MD takes four years and is split into six modules outlining three themes of medicine: professionalism, the science of medicine and the practice of medicine. The school promotes small group education and about 150 electives one can choose from.

Temple University – Lewis Katz School of Medicine

This institution is a public research university that offers an MD program and dual degrees allowing you to get your MD alongside a Ph.D., a Master of Arts in Urban Bioethics, an MPH or an MBA. Temple demonstrates leadership in humanistic education and promoting a holistic view of the patient.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants are generally required to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with sufficient knowledge in hard sciences and behavioral sciences. In addition to the application, applicants should submit up to 3 letters of recommendation, with at least one from a faculty member of a scientific discipline. In addition, they will need to write and submit MCAT scores, and may need to take a CASPer assessment. In some cases, they may be called in for an interview where they will likely be interviewed by a member of the admissions committee.
