Greets and directs patients and families, engages patients and siblings in play opportunities, provide additional family and patient needs.

Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

Facilitate playroom and bedside activities for patients and siblings. Assisting the Child Life Specialist when needed e.g. organizing, restocking, cleaning, etc.

Pet Therapy Leader

No pet required! Leads pet therapy volunteers to visit the patients and families throughout AdventHealth for Children in order to create the human and animal connection.

Pediatric Outpatient Procedure Unit

Engaging patients in age appropriate activities at the bedside. Present volunteer services to families and visitors.

Neonatal Intensive Care Infant Cuddler

Provides affection, love, and warmth to patients and families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Assist staff with daily tasks as needed.

Pediatric Radiology Concierge

Greets and directs patients and families, engages patients and siblings in play opportunities, assists with additional family and patient needs.

Supports the Volunteer Manager with office duties including but not limited to filing, phone calls, database entry, and additional clerical tasks.

Pediatric Emergency Department Concierge

Greets and directs patients and families, engages patients and siblings in play opportunities, assists with additional family and patient needs.

Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit

Facilitate playroom and bedside activities for patients and siblings. Assisting the Child Life Specialist when needed e.g. organizing, restocking, cleaning, etc.

Pediatric Outpatient Rehabilitation

Interacts with patients, families and visitors in the waiting room. Cleans, organizes, and restocks equipment and supplies. Assists the Rehabilitation team as needed.

Distributes free books to patients throughout AdventHealth for Children.

General Pediatrics Medical Surgical Unit

Facilitate playroom and bedside activities for patients and siblings. Assisting the Child Life Specialist when needed e.g. organizing, restocking, cleaning, etc.

Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care

Facilitates bedside activities for patients and siblings. Assists the Child Life Specialist when needed e.g. organizing, restocking, cleaning, etc.

Greets and directs patients and families, engages patients and siblings in play opportunities, provides additional family and patient needs in an outpatient setting. Assists staff with administrative duties as directed.

Teens Summer Program

Program runs June – July. Students engage in structured shifts to assist with programs throughout AdventHealth for Children e.g. infection prevention, child life, playrooms, etc.

Greeting and welcoming patients and families upon entering the facility. Providing directions throughout our hospital. Walking guests to their destinations.

Pet Therapy Team

A dog and their owner visiting patients and families throughout AdventHealth for Children in order to create the human and animal connection.

Assisting the Child Life Specialist with administrative duties such as (creating memory making opportunities for the families, documenting patient milestones, etc.) Assisting in the milk bank, providing support and play opportunities for patients, siblings, and more.

NICU Health Unit Assistant

Wash, fold, and properly store all laundry e.g. handmade isolate blankets, developmental wraps, etc., cover Health Unit Coordinators during breaks, restock patient rooms, interact with multidisciplinary team members.

PEDS Health Unit Assistant

Assist Health Unit Coordinators, restock patient rooms/supply rooms, assist nursing staff with unit needs, and more.

Create and donate handmade items for our patients and families including but not limited to quilts, baby hats, superhero capes, sibling sacks, blankets and more.

Gathering infection prevention data throughout the hospital through observing and interaction with multidisciplinary pediatric staff.

Volunteers will assist/shadow the appropriate research team member to gain knowledge about the research process and ethical standards for conducting research.

Working closely with the child life team to provide comfort and play opportunities to pediatric patients/siblings of all ages and abilities throughout the entire children’s hospital. Focusing on patients that don’t receive frequent visitors and patients whose parents need to take a break.

We’re excited about your interest in joining our volunteer family. You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer with AdventHealth for Children and AdventHealth for Women. Potential NICU Cuddler volunteers must be at least 21 years old. (Placement in the AdventHealth volunteer program is not guaranteed.)

Our program requires a six-month commitment, attending at least one four-hour shift per week. We have a variety of areas of service where volunteers are needed. Learn more below to get started.

  • Two personal or professional letters of recommendation not more than 45 days old,

You will also need the following documents to bring in to Volunteer Services:

  • Your original Social Security card
  • Your state-issued ID
  • Vaccination records (Hep B, MMR, Varicella)

Orientation is approximately two hours, and you will be able to exit the course and re-enter as needed (as long as you have your login credentials). New Volunteer Orientation is designed to prepare you for our health care environment and culture at AdventHealth, such as safety, infection prevention, privacy and our service standards.

The Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) manages all volunteers, oversees donations, and facilitates community partnerships and related philanthropic engagement. We are proud to be able to advocate for our Veterans’ needs and create meaningful partnerships with our community to better support our Veterans.

Become a Volunteer

Volunteers provide many important functions throughout the health care system and make our patients’ experiences more enjoyable. Our goal in the CDCE office is to ensure that our volunteer experience at any of our facilities is as rewarding to the volunteer as it is beneficial to the patients, families, visitors, and caregivers.

Volunteers can perform a number of services in both clinical and non-clinical areas. Volunteer’s talents and interests are used to match them to one or more of our available assignments where they would be able to provide the most impact.

The Volunteer Onboarding process includes:

  • Being 14 years or older (minors can contact the CDCE office to discuss Virtual opportunities)
  • Submitting a request to volunteer https://www.cdceportal.va.gov
  • Completing an application and all necessary screenings (health and background)
  • Completing orientation

The full onboarding process may take 2-3 weeks to complete.

Corporate, Business, and Group Opportunities

Monetary and non-monetary donations are used for the comfort and welfare of our Veterans. It can be used directly for the Veteran or for programs in which the Veterans benefit. When it comes to non-monetary donations our list of needs changes often, so please contact us to discuss accepted donations prior to dropping anything off.
