Introduction
If you’re applying to medical school, you’re probably familiar with the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), one of the key medical school requirements for MD and DO programs in the United States and Canada.
First administered in 1928, the old MCAT evolved substantially and the most recent version—the new MCAT—was introduced in April 2015. The new MCAT is scored on a scale of 472–528, with a mean score of 501. The old MCAT was scored on a scale of 3–45, with a mean score of approximately 25.
Maybe you took the old MCAT several years ago and you want to know the equivalent new MCAT score, or perhaps you’ve taken the new MCAT and are curious about what your score would have been using the old scale. Whatever the case, we’ve published tables below to help you convert total MCAT scores, as well as individual section scores from the old MCAT to new MCAT. We’ve also included corresponding MCAT percentiles in each table so you can see how your scores compare with other test takers’.
(Note: Most medical schools only accept MCAT scores from the past 2–3 years. Fortunately, each year the AAMC publishes the oldest MCAT score accepted by each MD program in the United States.)
